Discrimination

Howe+Co specialises in discrimination claims.
Discrimination cases can arise in the course of employment (see our Employment Law section).  The law also protects people from discrimination in relation to the provision of services, for example a blind person refused entry to a restaurant because of a guide dog or gay men refused a room at a hotel etc. The Equality Act also protects individuals from victimisation and harassment.

Howe+Co is currently bringing a compensation claim for a group of Irish Travellers and Gypsies claiming discrimination after being refused entry to a public house run by a national pub chain.
Discrimination can be as a result of the following “protected characteristics”:-
  • Sex
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Marriage or Civil Partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Gender reassignment

If you have been a victim of discrimination, then our understanding staff and solicitors can talk to you in confidence and explore all the legal options.  Legal Aid may be available for certain types of discrimination cases, and we are also happy to consider representing clients through no-win no-fee agreements (Conditional Fee Agreements) in appropriate cases.
