Howe+Co Solicitors have a large and dedicated Human Rights Team, who specialise in all aspects of human rights claims.
We have acted in ground-breaking human rights cases on key areas protected by the European Convention on Human Rights (“ECHR”). Howe+Co have helped clients who have had their lives put at risk by decisions of public bodies (Article 2 of the ECHR); we have helped victims of torture and ill-treatment (Article 3 of the ECHR); helped people who have been imprisoned and detained (Article 5 of the ECHR), and helped clients whose procedural rights have been infringed by public decision-making bodies or tribunals (Article 6 of the ECHR). Howe+Co has also worked on high profile cases in respect of the right to private and family life (Article 8 of the ECHR) and rights of association, assembly and free speech (Articles 9, 10 and 11 of the ECHR). Howe+Co’s Senior Partner, Martin Howe, is a member of the Council of Liberty (the organisation that protects civil liberties and promotes human rights). Liberty has also previously intervened in proceedings before the Court of Appeal to support one of Howe+Co’s leading free speech and human rights cases. If fundamental human rights are violated by public bodies or public authorities, then we can help individuals get decisions struck down. We can also obtain declarations of illegality, injunctions and/or damages in Judicial Review proceedings. Cases can be funded (where appropriate) by Legal Aid; by no-win no-fee arrangements (Conditional Fee Agreements); or by private funding. We are also able to help clients cope with the significant media interest that important public law and human rights cases generate in the press and media. |
